This round brass insignia carries Eastern Air Lines' "Great Silver Fleet" slogan, which promoted the airline's polished-aluminum airliners, and it measures about 1" in diameter. The slogan is raised in flowing script around the rim, with four small stars along the lower edge. The center field is recessed and holds the airline's falcon in flight, its swept wing detailed in fine raised lines. Two small holes on either side of the falcon suggest it was sewn or riveted to a garment, cap, or accessory rather than pinned on. The front has a warm, deeply antiqued finish, with the raised lettering and falcon rubbed bright on the high points. The reverse is bare brushed brass, with the design faintly echoed through the metal and scattered reddish oxidation spots. The stamping is crisp and the lettering fully legible. Falcon insignia bearing the "Great Silver Fleet" name are seldom seen, and they recall the years when the airline's slogan was a household phrase.
