The International 656 is a mid-size farm tractor built from 1966 to 1973. It’s available with gasoline or diesel engines, producing around 65 PTO horsepower, suitable for general farm work, planting, and light tillage. In this configuration the high utility offers better visibility and ground clearance for row crop farming, including many tasks such as cultivating.
Extremely rare and highly collectible, this International 656 Golden Demonstrator is believed to be one of only three known 656 row-crop utility Golden Demonstrators in existence—an extraordinary opportunity for any serious IH enthusiast. Factory-equipped with the Hydro transmission and powered by the dependable diesel engine, it delivers smooth operation, reliable performance, and unmistakable presence.
This tractor has been featured in several publications, further cementing its significance in the IH community. Professionally restored in 2013 with high-quality automotive paint, and a chrome grill insert, it showcases straight sheet metal, excellent detail, and a sharp, show-ready finish. With great tires and exceptional provenance, this 656 Golden Demonstrator is a true centerpiece tractor that stands out in any collection or on any show field.
This tractor was originally sold by Reddick Implement in Ahoskie, North Carolina to James Russel of Conway, North Carolina. It was later purchased by Marty Tine in Pennsylvania and then sold to Bob Zarce in Reynolds, Indiana. Bob rebuilt it and had it published in the Red Tractors Book by Octane Press in 2013 and Red Power Magazine in 2012. The Van Wyhes purchased the tractor in 2012 and had it restored by Danny Anderson in 2013 with chrome and/or stainless steel bolts throughout sheet metal, wheels, and fenders.
Tractor runs, drives, and operates as it should. Tractor is equipped with a drawbar, 540 PTO with proper shield, three point system, one hydraulic remote, fenders, lights, hazard light, a set of split rear wheel weights, front weight bracket, chrome exhaust, toolbox, and seat cushions. Tires are in great shape. New seat cushions. High quality, detailed restoration. Rear tires are 15.5-38 Firestones and front tires are 7.50-16 Firestones.
