1970 656 Farmall Hydro Diesel Row Crop Golden Demonstrator

The Farmall 656 is a mid-size farm tractor built from 1966 to 1973. It’s available with gasoline or diesel engines, producing around 65 PTO horsepower. Designed specifically for row-crop farming, it features adjustable rear wheel tread and high ground clearance to accommodate various planting widths and cultivation needs. The row crop models were compatible with a wide range of implements and suitable for tillage, planting, cultivating, and general field work. It features a hydro transmission, 540/1000-RPM PTO, reliable hydraulics, and a durable design, making it a versatile and dependable tractor of its era. 

This Farmall 656 Golden Demonstrator is a rare and eye-catching IH classic that delivers smooth hydro performance and proven diesel reliability. Restored in 2018 with high-quality automotive paint, it features straight sheet metal, crisp detailing, and a sharp overall finish that stands out wherever it goes. Well equipped with a three-point hitch, 540 PTO, dual hydraulic remotes, chrome accents, lighting, and more, it has both the looks and functionality to match. With excellent tires and everything operating as it should, this 656 is an outstanding addition to any collection, parade lineup, or enthusiast’s fleet. 

This Farmall 656 was originally purchased by a small farmer in northern Michigan who traded it off. A collector spotted it at a John Deere dealer and purchased it, he then partially restored it and used it as a parade tractor. The Van Wyhes purchased it and had it restored by Josh Olson in 2018 with chrome and/or stainless steel bolts throughout sheet metal, wheels, and fenders. 

Tractor runs and drives as shown in the video. Tractor is equipped with a set of split rear wheel weights, front mounted suitcase weight bracket, custom steps, throttle and shifter levers, chrome exhaust, chrome grille insert, lights, fenders, toolbox, hazard lights, and seat cushions.  Rear tires are 16.9-38 Firestones and front tires are 9.00-16 Alliances. Tires are in excellent condition. Sheet metal is nice and straight. High quality, detailed restoration.
