The International Harvester 544 is a small tractor produced from 1968 to 1973. This one features a diesel engine producing about 44 PTO horsepower, designed for small to mid-sized farm work, cultivation, and general chores. Being specifically built for row-crop operations, it offers adjustable rear tread width and generous ground clearance to handle a variety of planting and cultivating needs. The 544 was available with a hydro transmission, 540-RPM PTO, and dependable hydraulics, making it known for reliability, ease of use, and versatility on smaller farms.
This International Harvester 544 Golden Demonstrator is an incredibly scarce and desirable IH classic—believed to be just one of eight known examples in existence. Finished in high-quality automotive paint with straight, clean sheet metal, the attention to detail is evident throughout. Riding on excellent Firestone tires, this 544 Golden Demonstrator is a remarkable showpiece and a prized addition to any IH enthusiast’s lineup.
This tractor was originally found on a farm in New York. Randy saw it advertised on Craigslist and spotted the black cowling around the dash, the serial number was near the middle of the 1970 year production run so he took a chance. He then purchased the tractor in 2018 and found gold paint under the hoods. The tractor was in great shape and it was restored later by Josh Olson in 2020 with chrome and/or stainless steel bolts throughout sheet metal, wheels, and fenders.
Tractor runs and drives as it should and shown in the video. Tractor is equipped with a drawbar, three point system, 540 PTO with proper shield, two hydraulic remotes, fenders, lights, hazard lights, a set of rear split weights, front suitcase weight bracket, chrome throttle and shift levers, chrome exhaust, chrome grille insert, aftermarket steps, original style ether can, and new seat cushions. High quality, detailed restoration. Rear tires are 15.5-38 Firestones and front tires are 7.50-16 Firestones. Tires are in excellent condition. The seat cushion has a small nick towards the back. I know very little of the history of this tractor because it was purchased as a red – non Gold Demonstrator tractor. I asked about serial number and physical condition but nothing more.
