Some houses have character. This one has 145 years of it. Built in 1881 as a three-room log cabin, the homestead was expanded over the generations into a 2,569± SF, 4-bedroom, 2-bath farmhouse that keeps its history in plain sight. You'll find hand-hewn logs still bearing their original tool marks, original beams, wavy-glass windows, crystal doorknobs, the original doorbell, and a stone fireplace with a heart pine mantel. The great room has a wood stove and big windows looking across the pasture to the Blue Ridge Mountains. The large knotty pine kitchen and the sunroom both overlook the in-ground pool and pool house. For years this was home to a master woodcarver whose work drew buyers from miles around. His large workshop, flanked by barns, still stands along with a second shop and his bright artisan studio. The original hitching post, where riders once tied up at the cabin, is still there too. It sits less than 10 minutes from Tryon International Equestrian Center and next door to Parker Binns Winery. That makes it a natural fit for a bed & breakfast serving the equestrian show crowd, a hobby farm, or a family homeplace.
