1930 John Deere GP-P Tractor. SN#5110. One of only (203) built. The first SN# in 1929 was 5,000. The last one built in 1931 was SN#5202. Tractor #5110 was believed to have been manufactured in 1930. The 1930 John Deere GP-P tractor is an uncommon and historically interesting example of early John Deere agricultural equipment. The tractor was lovingly restored to original by the late owner, Mr T.K. Davis from Crossville, Alabama, but he did use a set of non original wheels with rubber tires so it could be used in parades. The original all steel wheels are not available. Family records and recollections indicate that approximately 203 GP-P tractors were built between January and August 1930. The GP-P was a specialized version of the John Deere General Purpose tractor, designed for particular types of cultivation and agricultural work. Family history indicates the several were shipped for use by potato farmers, reflecting the tractors connection to specialized farming operations. This tractor is especially meaningful to our family because my father in law's dedication to antique John Deere equipment and the preservation of American agricultural history. He carefully restored it to retain its original character and historical appearance as much as possible. Family photographs, restoration notes, receipts, parts records, and related materials may provide additional information about the work he completed. After the restoration, he displayed the tractor at antique tractor shows, where he shared it with collectors, agricultural historians, and the public. Photographs, show registrations, programs, awards, newspaper articles may provide further documention of those events. Displaying the tractor allowed my father in law to share his appreciation for early John Deere machinery and its role in American farming. His efforts helped preserve the tractors story and gave others an opportunity to learn from and enjoy it. The tractors reported production history, specialized agricultural use, family restoration history and show appearances make it an important part of our family's history. We are proud of the care and dedication my father in law devoted to preserving it and hope its next owner will value both the machine and the story behind it.
