This is an original oil painting on board by Donald James Zolan titled "Tiroler Bauer" (Tyrolean Farmer). It is a warm, characterful portrait of an elderly Tyrolean farmer with a full white mustache and beard, wearing a broad-brimmed hat and dark vest and holding a long pipe, set against a softly glowing background. Zolan's expressive brushwork and rich palette give the sitter a strong sense of personality and Old World charm. The painting is signed by the artist and presented in an ornate carved gilt frame with a cream linen liner. It is in excellent condition. Zolan was a child prodigy who began drawing at three and won an oil-painting scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago at twelve. He apprenticed under Haddon Sundblom, the illustrator of the Coca-Cola Santa Claus, and received portrait commissions from political leaders, writers, religious figures, and industrialists around the world. He later became one of America's best-known collectibles artists, famous for his paintings of children, with original oils selling for as much as $35,000. Medium: Oil on board Framed size: 18" x 20" (frame dimensions). Signed. Condition: Excellent, no issues to report.
