Iron Mountain Body # 25316 March 1947

Ford's Iconic All-Wood Family Wagon and One of
America's Most Desirable Postwar Collectibles
A true symbol of postwar American craftsmanship, this 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Woody Wagon represents one of the most recognizable and beloved station wagons ever produced. Combining Ford's dependable engineering with extraordinary handcrafted woodworking, the Woody Wagon became one of the most successful and stylish vehicles of the immediate postwar era. Unlike many luxury automobiles of the period, the Woody Wagon found widespread popularity among affluent families, vacationers, and country estate owners. It was among Ford's most expensive passenger vehicles for 1947, reflecting the extraordinary craftsmanship required to produce its genuine hardwood body. Despite its premium price, demand remained exceptionally strong. Ford produced 16,104 Woody Wagons for the 1947 model year, accounting for approximately 3% of Ford's total production, making it one of the company's most successful premium automobiles. This beautifully restored example has undergone a comprehensive rotisserie restoration, returning every component to concours-quality standards while preserving the elegance and craftsmanship that have made the Ford Woody one of the most celebrated collector automobiles of the postwar era.

Exceptional Provenance
This car was purchased out of the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania region from a friend of the current owner whom loved the Ford Woody, so much so that he owned two original 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Woody Wagons. Being a man in his early eighties at the time said, “who needs two at my age” and decided to sell. Shortly after acquiring, it went under a lengthy and comprehensive concours-quality restoration.
This exceptional Woody Wagon has been restored through a meticulous, body-off rotisserie restoration that addressed every aspect of the vehicle. Every mechanical, cosmetic, and structural component was carefully restored with an emphasis on authenticity and craftsmanship. Finished in beautiful Tucson Tan, the rich paintwork perfectly complements the handcrafted Hard Maple framing and elegant Mahogany body panels, showcasing the artistry that distinguished Ford's wood-bodied station wagons from conventional steel-bodied automobiles. The result is an exceptional restoration that faithfully captures the beauty, utility, and prestige that made the Ford Woody one of America's most admired family automobiles.

Award-Winning Restoration
Following its comprehensive rotisserie restoration, this exceptional Woody Wagon earned numerous prestigious honors from the Antique Automobile Club of America, recognizing the outstanding quality, authenticity, and craftsmanship of the restoration:
• AACA First Junior, 2011

• AACA First Senior, 2011

• AACA First Grand National, 2012

• AACA Senior Grand National, 2013

• AACA Multiple Preservation Awards

• AACA Post-War Car National Award – Central Division, 2011

• Early Ford V-8 Club of America Dearborn Award

These distinguished awards reflect the exceptional quality of the restoration and place this Ford Woody Wagon among the finest restored postwar Ford station wagons in the country.

Historical Significance
Ford's famous Woodies were unlike virtually any other production automobiles of their era. While most manufacturers abandoned extensive wood construction following World War II, Ford
continued producing genuine wood-bodied station wagons using traditional coach building techniques. Each body was handcrafted at Ford's renowned Iron Mountain, Michigan wood products facility using carefully selected Hard Maple for the structural framework and beautifully finished Mahogany for the body panels. The completed wooden bodies were then shipped to Ford assembly plants where they were fitted to Super Deluxe chassis before final assembly. Powered by Ford's dependable 239-cubic-inch Flathead V8 producing 100 horsepower and paired with a three-speed manual transmission, the Woody Wagon combined dependable performance with exceptional passenger and cargo capacity. It became the vehicle of choice for growing American families, country estates, resorts, and outdoor enthusiasts, helping establish the station wagon as both a practical and prestigious automobile. Today, the 1946–1948 Ford Super Deluxe Woody Wagon remains one of the most recognizable and collectible American automobiles ever produced. Its genuine hardwood construction, timeless styling, and enduring craftsmanship continue to make it a centerpiece of concours events and premier collections around the world.

Auction Opportunity
Beautifully restored Ford Woody Wagons remain among the most sought-after postwar American collector automobiles. Their handcrafted construction, distinctive styling, and enduring popularity have made them staples of premier concours events, museums, and distinguished private collections.
Combining a comprehensive rotisserie restoration, factory-correct presentation, nationally recognized AACA awards, exceptional craftsmanship, and one of the most iconic designs in automotive history, this 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Woody Wagon presents an extraordinary opportunity for discerning collectors.
