This Eastern Air Lines wing is stamped on the reverse with L.G. Balfour Company's crest-style "B" mark followed by "1/10 10K GF," identifying it as gold-filled, and it measures about 2⅜" wide by ½" tall. Five tiers of swept feathers, with polished leading edges and darker antiqued recesses, extend from a beaded medallion that holds the airline's oval "hockey stick" falcon logo, in white enamel on a deep blue field. The reverse has two straight posts and a center slotted screw, and its bright gold surface is dotted with small dark oxidation spots. A small fleck of residue clings near the right post. On the front, the enamel is glossy and intact, with a single tiny dark spot on the right wing and light scratches along the polished edges. Balfour-marked gold-filled wings are the better-made grade of Eastern insignia, and they are popular with collectors for their crisp detail and clear maker's mark.
