This Eastern Air Lines wing badge is stamped on the reverse "LGB 1/10 10K," the mark of L.G. Balfour Company, with the fraction indicating gold-filled construction. It measures about 2½" wide by ½" tall. Five tiers of swept feathers spread from a beaded medallion that holds the oval Eastern logo, the stylized falcon in white on dark blue enamel that arrived with the airline's mid-1960s "hockey stick" livery. The polished leading edges contrast with darker, antiqued recesses in the feathers. The reverse has two straight pins and a center bracket secured by a slotted screw, and the screw slot is burred from past use. The enamel is sound with minor surface blemishes in the blue field, and the gold-filled surfaces show light toning and gentle handling wear. Balfour-marked gold-filled Eastern wings were a step above the standard base-metal issue.
