This gold-tone "TRAINEE" bar was worn by an Eastern Air Lines employee still in training, and it carries the airline's stylized falcon logo on a small oval of dark blue and white enamel at the left end. That logo is the "hockey stick" mark Eastern introduced in the mid-1960s under president Floyd Hall, when the airline moved to its two-tone blue livery. The face has a brushed satin finish, with the letters recessed and filled in dark blue enamel. The reverse is stamped "LGB," the mark of L.G. Balfour Company of Attleboro, Massachusetts, a leading maker of insignia and employee badges. Two straight posts secure it, one showing a slight lean. Light tarnish and toning appear on the back, and the face shows only faint surface wear, with the enamel intact. Width of 2.8 inches.Trainee bars are far scarcer than the standard wings and name pins that stayed in circulation for decades, since they were worn only briefly and are seldom found today.
