This Eastern Air Lines desk ashtray is topped by a cast-metal model of the Lockheed Constellation, the triple-tailed four-engine airliner that carried Eastern passengers along the East Coast through the postwar years. The plane is finished in silver paint, with the dolphin-curved fuselage, four nacelles with pointed spinners, and three rounded tail fins. It measures about 11" across the wings and 9" from nose to tail. A curved blue arm lettered "EASTERN" in vertical gilt letters rises from a sloped blue base. A removable clear plastic cover printed with the "Eastern Air Lines" script and red falcon sits over the ashtray well, and a gilt "CONSTELLATION" star emblem runs across the front edge. The plane has scattered paint losses on the fuselage, wings, and tail, including a larger patch near one wingtip, and the spinner tips are worn to bare metal. The base has chipped edges and corners, and the cover is scuffed and dusty. It is a complete, displayable example of a period airline office piece.
