This small pin follows the classic "prop and wings" design used as the branch insignia of the U.S. Army Air Service and its successor, the Army Air Corps, from the late 1910s through 1947 — a central two-blade propeller flanked by outstretched, feather-detailed wings. This example adds a distinguishing detail not found on the standard-issue insignia: the letters "E" and "A" set into the base of the left and right wings respectively, likely marking it to a specific unit, flying school, or civilian aviation organization rather than general Army Air Service issue. Construction is two-piece, with a separately mounted silvertone propeller riveted over gilt-finished wings, and the reverse retains its pin-back catch stamped with a partial patent number, along with a working closure. The gilt shows soft, even wear to the raised feather detail and a small area of surface loss on the lower wing, with the silvertone propeller showing light oxidation but no damage.
