This desk ashtray was made for Eastern Air Lines and carries a cast-metal model of the Lockheed Constellation, the triple-tailed airliner that became a familiar sight on Eastern's postwar East Coast routes. The silver-painted plane has the Connie's long, curving fuselage, four nacelles with pointed spinners, and three oval fins. It measures approximately 11" across the wings and 9" from nose to tail. The plane lifts off its mount, a curved blue arm lettered "EASTERN" in gilt on a dark band. A removable clear cover over the ash well is printed with the "Eastern Air Lines" script and a white falcon, and a gilt "CONSTELLATION" star emblem crosses the front of the sloped blue base. The plane has pitted paint loss across the wings and fuselage, with rust-brown oxidation at the nacelles, wing roots, and tail joints. The arm and base show fine speckled paint loss throughout, and the cover is lightly dusty. It is a complete example with heavy wear.
