This large Cuban pilot-style wing is solid 14K gold, weighs 16.75 g, and measures about 4" wide by 1" tall. The central shield carries the Cuban national coat of arms: the sun rising over the sea, the key between two capes, diagonal bands, and a royal palm on the landscape. Swept-back wings extend to either side, with every feather individually modeled and finely barbed, and the shoulders curl inward toward the shield. The reverse is unmarked and has two straight posts with scalloped, rosette-shaped clutch backs in a warmer rose-gold tone. A soldered seam crosses the back behind the shield, with dark residue at the joint. The gold color is rich and even, with light scratches on the reverse and softly darkened feather recesses. The front detail remains crisp, with no sign of damage to the shield or feather tips. Full-relief wings in solid gold with the national arms are seldom seen, and the piece appeals both to collectors of Latin American and Cold War-era aviation insignia and to buyers who value the gold content.
