This charm-style medal reads "HONORARY MEMBER" arched around a Maltese-style cross badge, identifying it as a membership medal for the United Spanish War Veterans (U.S.W.V.), a fraternal organization founded for those who served in the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine-American War through 1902. Genuine U.S.W.V. membership crosses typically bear the theater names "Cuba," "Philippines," and "Porto Rico" around a central roundel — consistent with the layout partially visible here — marking the medal's tie to American military service across those campaigns, of direct relevance given Cuba's role in that conflict. Unlike standard numbered member medals, this example is designated "Honorary Member" rather than issued to a verified veteran, suggesting it was presented to a supporter, civic figure, or non-combatant associated with the organization rather than a service member himself. The medal has an irregular, hammered-edge outline rather than a perfect circle, with a suspension loop at top for ribbon or fob mounting. The gilt-bronze surface shows genuine aged patina and oxidation, with the raised lettering and cross detail still legible despite wear.
