This round bronze-tone pin carries American Airlines' early eagle emblem, with the wings spread between two large block letters reading "AA," and a hammered, stippled texture fills the field around the design. It measures about 1⅜" in diameter. The eagle is cast in high relief with individually defined feathers, and both letters are recessed with a raised outline. The reverse is plain and unmarked, with a horizontal pin stem and hook-style catch. The bronze-tone finish is darkened and uneven throughout, giving the piece an aged, antique look, and the raised eagle and lettering show wear on their high points. The reverse has light scratching and old handling marks. This early rendering of American's eagle logo predates the airline's later streamlined marks, and its dimensional casting sets it apart from the flatter enamel pins common from other carriers.
Measures approximately 1.5" x 1.5"
