This piece bears the department title "ENGINEERING" on its enamel banner, marking it as insignia worn by staff in American Airlines' technical or engineering division. It carries the familiar eagle-and-block-letter "AA" design, the sculpted eagle rising between two capital A's atop full-span wings, cast in bronze with a rich, darkened patina that highlights the raised detail in the feathers and lettering. "ENGINEERING" is spelled out in gold toned lettering across a deep blue enamel banner below the wings. The reverse shows a pin-back closure with the steel pin intact, and there's noticeable oxidation and darkening to the metal on the back consistent with genuine age. This is a scarcer department designation compared to more commonly seen role-based badges, making it a nice find for a serious airline insignia collection.
Measures approximately 3"x 1.25".
