This Frick steam locomotive was built around what is believed to have been an original Frick portable boiler.
Originally constructed as a portable boiler, it was believed that it operated in Oklahoma, possibly as a quarry engine. It’s approx a 12 ton unit with a 42 inch gauge track system. Also - Seller has a crane capable of loading the train onsite!
The owner updated its original six-inch cylinders with an unbalanced valve gear were replaced with larger eight-inch cylinders featuring balanced valves. This modification effectively doubled mm the piston area, providing substantially more power for tackling grades. The original D-valve cylinders will sell with the engine if the new owner would like to put them back on.
Currently, the engine has been carefully stored indoors for 25 years and was in serviceable condition when last operated. The boiler is a code built boiler that was successfully hydro-tested at 225 PSI before the current owner purchased it.
The plumbing includes twin Penberthy injectors for feeding water from a fiberglass tank. Some fittings appear to be galvanized and should be removed prior to operation.
Currently configured to burn propane through a vaporizer, the locomotive would benefit from conversion to fuel oil or diesel with steam atomization for improved efficiency and heat output.
The engine will come with approx 1/2 mile 60 pound ASCE rail, angle bars with bolts & nuts, approx 600 precast concrete ties with galvanized studs for installation on 4’ centers, rubber rail chairs, galvanized rail tie down hardware with gauge adjustment capability for curves, three stub switches with cast steel frogs.
