Balfour Company of Attleboro, Massachusetts — one of the premier makers of airline uniform insignia throughout the jet age. The obverse presents symmetrical swept wings in warm gold-tone metal with clean feather striations tapering to pointed tips, centered on a beaded-border roundel filled with navy blue enamel and Eastern's iconic "hockey stick" logo device in white and gold — the stylized mark that became synonymous with the airline during its final decades of operation. A five-pointed star in matching gold-tone crowns the roundel, denoting captain's rank. The reverse bears the Balfour shield stamp and retains its two original needle posts, though the clutch backs are absent. Eastern Air Lines, once one of the "Big Four" U.S. carriers and a dominant force along the Eastern Seaboard and Latin American routes, ceased operations in 1991 following a protracted labor dispute and bankruptcy — making crew insignia from its final livery era genuinely collectible pieces of American aviation history.
