An exceptionally rare and historically important uniform wings badge from Eastern Air Transport — the direct predecessor to Eastern Air Lines and one of the earliest incarnations of what would become one of America's great legacy carriers. The obverse presents a pair of fully spread, finely detailed swept wings in gold-tone base metal, flanking an oval center disc with a blue enamel upper arc reading "EASTERN AIR" and a red enamel lower arc reading "TRANSPORT," with a silver center field bearing a silhouetted propeller-driven aircraft in profile with speed lines — a bold and handsome design entirely consistent with the Art Deco aesthetic of early American commercial aviation. The reverse is stamped "W&H Co." — the hallmark of the Whitehead & Hoag Company of Newark, New Jersey, one of the most important American badge and insignia manufacturers of the early twentieth century, active from 1892 through the early 1950s — along with three screw posts (nuts absent). Eastern Air Transport existed under that name for only four years: the airline was renamed from Pitcairn Aviation in 1930 by owner Clement Keys of North American Aviation, and reorganized as Eastern Air Lines in 1934 following the Airmail Act of that year. Uniform insignia bearing the "Eastern Air Transport" name were therefore produced and worn during this narrow four-year window, making them among the rarest pieces in the entire Eastern Airlines collecting universe. 7. The purchaser agrees to pay all reasonable attorney fees and costs incurred by the auction company in the collection of funds. The purchaser also agrees that a fee of 2% per month is added to the balance of any unpaid balance due the auction company and any other costs or losses incurred by the purchaser's failure to adhere to these terms. Any debt collection or dispute proceedings will be heard in Spartanburg County, South Carolina.
8. The auctioneer has the sole discretion to advance the bidding and may reject a nominal advance, should it in his estimation prove injurious to the auction. The auctioneer shall be the final judge in all bidding disputes and shall name a bidder as the purchaser.
9. The auction company shall not be held responsible for any 'missed' bids or bids unseen by the auctioneer. Bid Retractions ARE NOT ALLOWED! Bid ONLY on items you wish to purchase!

No charge back or refund will be allowed! Items not removed by the time listed for pick up MAY be charged a fee ($25 'Local Pickup' / $5 Small Items) to be placed in storage.
