How could you possibly make the powerhouse of the IH 56 series line better? A front wheel assist of course! The short production run of the 1456 was just from 1969–1971. Add the rarity of the front wheel assist and it makes this tractor over the top! It’s powered by the turbocharged IH DT407 6-cylinder diesel making around 130 PTO horsepower. Available with the gear transmission and optional Torque Amplifier, a 1000-RPM PTO, and was available in both standard (International) and row-crop (Farmall) versions. The front wheel assist was an expensive option, used anywhere you needed that “extra” power.
This Farmall 1456 is the epitome of the Muscle Tractor Era! Being a 1456 puts it there, but the MFWA moves it to the front of the line. An exceptional, high quality restoration defines this tractor. There are so many more moving parts with the front wheel assist, making all the hard work already done for you! The tractor runs and operates exactly as it should, featuring excellent automotive-quality paint, straight sheet metal, and sharp attention to detail throughout. Fully outfitted with dual PTOs, three-point hitch, hydraulic remotes, weights, and premium Firestone tires. This 1456 is an ideal addition for a collector, exhibitor, or anyone looking to own a truly iconic Farmall.
This tractor started its life in the large fields of the western United States. It was later purchased by Dale Smith of OEM Tractor Parts in Chenoa, Illinois. Dale traded another tractor for this from a collector in Colorado, he eventually sold it to a collector in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan where it would sit for the next 20 years. The Van Wyhes purchased it in 2020 and rebuilt many of the worn parts that happen during a normal working life, including the front wheel assist that was installed right from the factory. It was then restored by Josh Olson in 2021 with all new tires and chrome and/or stainless steel bolts throughout sheet metal, wheels, and fenders. Later it was dynoed by Danny Anderson at 150 engine horsepower.
Tractor runs, drives, and operates as it should. Machine has an excellent restoration with automotive paints. Tractor is equipped with fenders, weight bracket, chrome grille insert, chrome throttle and shift levers, split rear wheel weights, steps, lights, hazards, and new seat cushions. High quality, detailed restoration. Rear tires are 20.8-38 Firestones and front tires are 14.9-24 Firestones. Tires are in excellent condition.
