The Moline Universal was not a typical tractor of its day. It featured a modular design where the tractor engine unit could be hitched directly to a wide variety of implements like planters, cultivators, and harvesters. The operator actually sat on the implement, not the tractor. This design reduced weight and gave a more direct line of sight to the fieldwork being done.
It was powered by a four-cylinder gasoline engine, it had enough horsepower to do the work of a small team of horses, making it ideal for small to medium farms. It was a very successful line for Moline Plow company but the design was soon outdated in the fast moving development of the farm tractor.
